Normalisasi Sungai Masih Terkendala

River Normalization is Still Hampered

Jakarta Provincial Government's effort to handle flood is still hampered by a few things. One of them is river's normalization which is not fully implemented.

The problem is we must provide flats to relocate people. It is not appropriate to relocate them just like that

Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said the normalization can not be applied in all rivers yet because of the flats are not ready yet thus citizen don't wanting to be relocated.

"For example, Sunter River which is not normalized yet. Including Halim where we want to build reservoir there," he said at City Hall, Tuesday (2/21).

Normalization in Cakung Lama Awaits Relocation Process

He added Jakarta Government actually planned to normalize Ciliwung River, Pesanggrahan River, and Sunter River as an effort to minimize dispatched flood impacts.

"The problem is we must provide flats to relocate people. It is not appropriate to relocate them just like that," he added.

He gave an example of embankment construction in Pasar Ikan. Impacted residents can be relocated because flats already were already prepared thus embankment construction can be done.

"Now, Pasar Ikan is not flooded again. If we don't built embankment, maybe it will continue to be flooded now," he closed.
